Gadkari inaugurates first RIS system on Haldia-Farakka stretch

New Delhi, Jan 6 (UNI) Minister of Shipping and Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari today inaugurated the first phase of River Information Services (RIS) System on the Haldia-Farakka stretch and said development of national waterway on river Ganga and others would be put on a fast track and a modern tracking system in line with Air Traffic Control (ATC) will monitor the smooth navigation and safety of vessels.
Terming the waterways transportation as the cheapest mode, the Minister said that it is also the safest mode and the Government has put this ambitious project on fast track.
Mr Gadkari said that he was hopeful that the Bill would get Rajya Sabha nod in the Budget Session to speed up the project.
