G D Agrawal passes away on 112th day of fast for Ganga

Dehradun, Oct 11 (UNI) Environmentalist Prof G D Agrawal, on hunger strike for the Ganga in Kankhal-Haridwar, for 111 days passed away Thursday afternoon at AIIMS, Rishikesh, following cardiac arrest.
The IIT professor-turned-sanyaasi ( known as Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand) was brought to the hospital by authorities yesterday from the venue of his fast following decline in his condition.
Associates of Prof Agrawal present at the hospital said, the 87-year old Ganga warrior suffered cardiac arrest and breathed his last around 1300hrs but the doctors declared him dead late this afternoon after suspense for more than three hours.
Earlier this morning, doctors administered him potassium and drip to give 500 ML IV fluid.
Agrawal, an acclaimed river activist, who earlier headed Civil Engineering department at IIT Kanpur and served as the first member secretary of the Central Pollution Control Board, had in his will bequeathed his body to AIIMS Rishikesh.

Kendrapara, Nov 28 (UNI)The forest personnel of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary have intercepted a fishing vessel for trespassing into the prohibited zone of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary and arrested nine fishermen
The forest personnel also seized 70 kg fish catch , fishing equipment ,fishing nets from the arrested fishermen, Debashis Bhoi, the Range officer of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary said.

22-yr-old youth dies in road accident in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Nov 28 (UNI) A 22-year-old youth was killed on the spot after he fell down on the road from his scooter and was run over by a tractor-trolly overloaded with sugarcane at Amshi-Bololi village in Karveer tehsil of the district on Saturday.
