Fungal threat looms large on Apple crops in HP

Shimla, Jun 23 (UNI) The apple economy of the state, which is worth Rs 4500 crore, is facing a serious challenge of Scab, as the complaints regarding early symptoms of this fungal disease were reported from a number of growers from Shimla and Mandi districts, a senior state official confirmed on Sunday.
According to Director of Horticulture in Himachal Pradesh M L Dhiman, reports of the disease were very much in the knowledge of department, which was mainly attributed to the long spell of rainfall and extremely low temperature.
He said after receiving complaints from parts of Shimla and Mandi districts, expert teams from Dr YS Parmar University and the department were deployed in the affected areas.
