French Army Contingent arrives for Exercise Shakti in Bikaner

Bikaner, Oct 29 (UNI) The French Army contingent, comprising 38 personnel, has arrived in Bikaner, to participate in the Indo-French exercise SHAKTI-2019, being conducted from October 31 to November 13 at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges.
On arrival at the exercise area at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, the Indian Army extended a warm and traditional welcome to the French contingent, which was followed by exchange of pleasantries among the soldiers of both nations, Rajasthan-based Defence PRO Col Sombit Ghosh said.
Exercise SHAKTI-2019 is the fifth edition in the series of bilateral exercises under this banner.
The joint exercise would focus on Counter Terrorism operations in the backdrop of semi-desert terrain under the United Nations Mandate.
The joint training will also focus on high degree of physical fitness, tactical drills, techniques and procedure.
A comprehensive training programme for a period of two weeks has been worked out for achieving the same, Col Ghosh added.
During the exercise, the participants will engage in a variety of missions from joint planning, cordon and search operations, search and rescue, joint tactical drills and basics of special arms skills.
The biennial exercise, which was started in 2011, is conducted alternatively in both the countries.
A contingent of Sikh Regiment of Sapta Shakti Command is representing the Indian Army, while the French Army delegation is being represented by troops of 21st Marine Infantry Regiment of 6th Armoured Brigade.
