Four militants arrested in Manipur over  assault, extortion activities

Imphal, July 9 (UNI) In a series of operations conducted across Manipur, security forces arrested ten individuals including four militants yesterday, in connection with criminal activities including physical assault, extortion, and involvement with banned outfits.
Manipur Police official today said in one operation, Manipur Police apprehended six individuals associated with the group Arambai Tengol for their alleged involvement in the assault of police personnel during a bandh in Bishnupur district on June 9, 2025. The accused were taken into custody from different locations in Imphal West and Bishnupur districts.
In a separate operation, one active member of the proscribed outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP(PWG)] was arrested from the Kekrupat, North AOC area. The individual was reportedly involved in threatening and extorting money from the public, brick kiln operators, and government employees. A mobile phone and a small amount of cash were seized during the arrest.
Another KCP(PWG) cadre was arrested from Moirang Okshongbung in Bishnupur district. Authorities stated that the individual had extorted significant sums from educational institutions in Thoubal district. Seized items included a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card.
As part of intelligence-led combing and cordon-and-search operations to crack down on extortion rackets, Manipur Police arrested two more KCP(PWG) operatives from the Utlou area of Bishnupur district. The duo was allegedly raising funds for the banned outfit through extortion in the Nambol area.
Among the arrested was a self-styled section commander believed to be leading more than 15 cadres. Police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track and detain the remaining members of the network.
Security forces reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and continue to monitor and respond to threats posed by insurgent and criminal groups in the region.
