Four members of Rajasthan University booked for cheating students of over Rs 8 cr

Thane, Oct 12 (UNI) The city police on Saturday booked four senior members of a private university from Churu of Rajasthan for cheating more than 600 students from Thane to the tune of over Rs. 8 crores.

The investigating officer of this case PI SS Nimbalkar of the Kapurbawdi police station said that criminal offences under sections 420,406 rw 34 of the IPC has been registered against the four with the Kapurbawdi police station which was under probe he said.

He also said that in connection with the crime the Chairman of the NETT Paramedical College, Dr. Purushottam Bhavandas Tahilramani had filed a petition against the university management in the Thane court which last week observed that there was prima facie case made out by the petitioner and directed the Thane police to register an offence and probe into the crime.

The police said that NETT at Thane acted on behalf of the Rajasthan University and gave admissions to students from 2015 till 2019 as many as 692 students and made a payment of Rs. 8,39,51,800 to the university towards fees.

The university in question from time to time gave some lame excuses and did not not provide the passing certificates and in some cases did not not allow the students to appear for exams and adopted other tactics. In one case when the students went to Rajasthan for writing the exams they were bashed up and beaten by the management personal and driven away.

All these are listed in the petition to the court and the FIR filed before the police by the Thane based educational institute.

The police gave the names of the alleged accused against whom the offences have been registered as Dr Joginder Omprakash Singh, Chairman, OPJS University, Churu, Rajasthan, Dr. Jitendra Kumar Yadav, Vice-Chancellor, Deepak Puri, Agent/Co-ordinator, Priya Shankar Jain, Secretary.

The University conducted courses and and exams in Paramedical stream.
