Palghar, Jun 6 (UNI) With the arrest of four members of an inter-state gang on Thursday, the Rural Police claimed to have solved the case of robbery at a gold loan company worth Rs 1.77 crore way back in September 2019.
Addressing the newsmen at Palghar on Friday, district superintendent of police Dattatreya Shinde said that on the morning of September 20, 2019, at around 1030 hours, six armed dacoits barged into the gold finance office situated at Central park of Nalla Sopara and looted a booty of Rs 1,76,87,135.
Then, an offence under sections 394, 427 of Indian Penal Code and also sections 3, 4(25) of the Arms Act was registered against the gang with the Tulinj police station.
The police probe team got a tip-off about the four and nabbed them from Mumbai on Thursday, the police officer said.
The police recovered cash currency from the sale of looted ornaments, gold ornaments, one revolver, one pistol, 8 live cartridges, one multi-purpose vehicle and an autorickshaw from the arrested collectively worth Rs 39,71,600, police said.
The arrested four have confessed to the dacoity at Axis bank of Rs 3,87,50,000, for which an offence under section 395 of IPC was registered with the Nalla Sopara police station, police said.
They were also involved in a crime at Vapi in 2020 and a case under section 395 of IPC and Arms Act was filed against them in this connection, it was stated.
A number of offences pertaining to murder, dacoity, theft and vehicle theft are registered with the police stations at Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Gujarat and Karnataka against the arrested accused and other gang members, police said.
The arrested four were on Friday produced before a local magistrate who remanded them into police custody till June 14.
While, police have launched a hunt to nab other gang members who were also involved in this and other crimes, police added.
