Four arrested for gangrape in Thane

Thane, Aug 2 (UNI) Four people, including two brothers, have been arrested by the police on the charge of allegedly gangraping a 42-year-old woman in Bhiwandi town of the district.
The woman, a resident of Rahanal on the outskirts of Bhiwandi, had on Friday gone to meet one of her friends at Charni pada (where a number of godowns are situated) to enquire about a job in a godown in the vicinity, as she had lost her job during the lockdown and was returning home at about 2230 hours when the incident occurred, police said.
While she was walking along the railway tracks and near the Munisur compound, the gang of five, who were possibly drunk, accosted her, dragged her to the bushes and raped her at the knife-point.
The woman fell unconscious and was spotted by the passers-by, who alerted the Narpoli police whose team rushed to the scene and admitted the woman to a hospital for treatment.

An offence under sections 376(D), 341, 324 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the concerned police station against the five.
Later, the police launched a manhunt for the accused and arrested the four accused -- two of them on Saturday and others on Sunday, while the fifth is still at large.
They have been identified as Monty Kailas Varte (25), Vishal Kailas Varte (23, both siblings from Bhiwandi), Kumar Daku Rathod (25) and Anil Kumar Shyam Bihari Gupta (28).
They were produced before a magistrate, who remanded them into police custody till August 8, sources added.
