Founding member of HP CPI(M) Mohar Singh passes away

Shimla, Jan 11(UNI) Founding member of Himachal Pradesh State committee of CPI(M) Mohar Singh passed away at PGI Chandigarh on Friday evening, district party Secretary Sanjay Chauhan confirmed in a message.
His mortal body would be handed over to IGMC Shimla at 0900 tomorrow.
Party became a strong force under his able leadership and hard work which made formidable space in the political history of state emerged from Kissan Sabha, Students and employees, Chauhan said.
History of party state unit revolved around him as during the Emergency various like minded CPI (M) members and supporters organized themselves in Shimla, particularly among the university teachers, students and employees.
After the Emergency in August 1977, the Central Committee of the CPI (M) sanctioned an adhoc state committee of five members to the state, which was elected in a conference on 15th August 1977 at Shimla, consisting of Mr.Tara Chand, Roshan Lai, Kuldeep Singh, D.N.Kapoor and Mohar Singh.

During the Secretaryship of Tara Chand who was elected in the state conference of 1978, Mohar Singh was elected as Assistant Secretary. Subsequently, in the Shimla State Conference Mohar Singh was elected State Secretary in 1989.
The Tenth State Conference of CPI (M) was held at Mandi in which delegates from ten districts participated. There were no delegates from Kinnaur and Lahaul & Spiti.
This conference elected 29 members to the State Committee and also a five member State Secretariat.
Mohar Singh was elected as the Secretary CPI(M) in the Tenth State Conference of the party which also elected 29 members to the State Committee and also a five member State Secretariat.
The CPI (M) in Himachal Pradesh with eight functioning district committees and two area committees is now the main left party in the State.
