Former wrestler held with aides for Rs 65 lakh armed heist

New Delhi, Sep 12 (UNI) Delhi Police Special Cell has nabbed a national level wrestler along with two associates for allegedly committing an armed heist of Rs 65 lakh, the police said on Wednesday.
According to police, the robbery took place on August 9 wherein one Mohd. Shazeb, a businessman dealing in foreign currency left his office at Sarita Vihar and was on his way home along with his brother carrying Rs 65 lakh in a backpack and was robbed by six persons and his brother was also fired upon as he resisted.
Special cell, which was roped in for the case, sensing the gravity deployed sources in and around Delhi.
Initially, one person identified as Yogender, a resident of Shahbad Dairy, who was involved in the above case, was arrested while a country made pistol with 3 live cartridges were recovered from his possession.
Further, during questioning he disclosed the names of his associates and later on Monday, a special cell team laid a trap based on a tip-off near Harish Chander Hospital, Narela, where two key members of the gang including kingpin Sunil Kumar arrived in a Gypsy at around 1815 hours where they were intercepted and overpowered by the police led by Inspector Shiv Kumar and was under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Special Cell Attar Singh.
The three were arrested by the cell team who were identified as Rajesh alias Monu, Sunil Kumar and Yogender Saroya.
During interrogation, the three disclosed that Sunil the kingpin of the gang had received an information from Gaurav, a resident of Bawana regarding the victim who used to carry huge amount of cash on a daily basis and thereby they hatched a plan.
They further disclosed that they had distributed the booty after the heist, from which Sunil purchased a second hand Maruti Gypsy, Rajesh made down payment of Rs 2.5 lacs for purchasing a brand new car and had also spent around Rs 4 lakh while partying in Goa, Mumbai and Kolhapur.
The said vehicles along with Rs 7.5 lakh plus Rs 6 lakh of the robbed money has been seized by the police including two sophisticated pistols along and 9 live rounds of ammunition.
According to police, the kingpin Sunil Kumar who comes from an agricultural family, had joined Bankner Akhada for wrestling and earned laurels in wrestling by winning State Level Championship, however post a serious shoulder injury his career in wrestling was crippled and later he came in contact of various criminals and started indulging in violent crimes.
He also had previous involvements in 5 criminal cases of murder, robbery and others, the police said adding that further probe was underway.
