Former Union Minister stresses upon the quality of Education in HP

Shimla, Sep 20 (UNI) Former Union Minister stressed up on the quality of Education in institute of higher learning like Central University stating that increasing tendency of suicide among the students is cause of concern.
Addressing students on this occasion 5th Convocation of Central Unversity Mr Shanta Kumar said this without mentioning the name of Hyderabad University Student Rohit Vimula former chief minister expressed sadness on the increasing suicidal rate among students.
He said “life is full of ordeals and one have to face all hurdles boldly, only then aims can be achieved.”
Shanta Kumar said “that now universities are mushrooming but the level of education imparted is going down considerably”.
He stressed on the need of Converting words into action instead of loud speeches.” action should speak instead of loud words.
Dr Harmohinder Singh Bedi, Chancellor of the University, said in his address during the convocation that India has a vast reservoir of ancient knowledge which is recognized by the entire world. He cited various instances of Indian scriptures such as Gita and Ramcharitmanas being used by different countries of the world to inculcate the characteristics of a good human being in their students.
Dr Bedi emphasized the need to learn from our ancient educational systems such as those employed by Universities such as Taxila in order to regain the past glory of our country as a leader of the world. He also said that we should focus on strengthening our regional languages in order to come out of our colonial prejudices and make our country great again.
Presenting the Annual Report, Vice Chancellor of the University Prof (Dr) Kuldip Chand Agnihotri said that very soon the University will have its own campus as Detailed Project Report (DPR) is submitted to Union Government. In this academic session a course on Jammu Kashmir Studies and Yoga has been introduced which will be taught in Sanskrit medium as the ancient literature of it is available in this language only.
The Convocation Ceremony of Central University of Himachal Pradesh held at the auditorium of Government Post Graduate College Dharamshala.
Chief Guest on the occasion former union minister and former chief minister Shanta Kumar awarded PhD degrees to 35 scholar from various disciplines and gold medals to 32 toppers in MA, MSc and MBA streams. Degrees were given to 758 post graduate students, 27 undergraduate students, 14 diploma students in this ceremony.
