Lucknow, Aug 20 (UNI) Former MLA from Rae Bareli, Akhilesh Singh, passed away in Lucknow on Tuesday after suffering from prolonged illness.
The 59-year-old politician was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow on Monday.
Singh, a ‘Robinhood’ among locals, had won five times from the Raebareli (Sadar) seat. He was elected one time each from Indian National Congress and Peace Party, while three times as an Independent.
He is survived by a wife and two daughters.
Singh's elder daughter Aditi, is a Congress MLA from Rae Bareli (Sadar) seat.
His last rites would be performed at his ancestral house in Lalupur village of Raebareli.
