Former Haryana CM OP Chautala convicted in disproportionate assets case

New Delhi, May 21 (UNI) A Special CBI Court in Delhi on Saturday convicted former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.
Earlier during 1999-2000, Chautala and 53 others were charged in connection with the appointment of 3,206 junior basic teachers in Haryana and in January 2013, court sentenced Chautala and his son Ajay Singh Chautala to ten years’ imprisonment under various provisions of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act (PC Act). Chautala was released from the Tihar Jail on 2 July 2021 from a 10 years' prison sentence.
Haryana Congress leader Shamsher Singh Surjewala had filed a complain against Chautala and after investigation CBI filed a charge sheet against the former Haryana CM on March 26, 2010 in this case and held him responsible for allegedly amassing assets worth Rs 6.09 crore, disproportionate to his legitimate income, between 1993 and 2006.
