Former External Affairs Minister Krishna urges the Centre to include proposal of One India One Smart Card in the Budget-2019-20

Bengaluru, Jun 29 (UNI) Former External Affairs Minister and senior BJP leader S M Krishna has urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to move a proposal in the current Union Budget to be presented in the Lok Sabha on July 5 for inclusion of ‘One India, One Smart Card’ concept.

The Smart Grid vision for India, he stated that, ‘’(will) transform the Indian power sector into a secure, adaptive, sustainable and digitally enabled ecosystem that provides reliable and quality energy for all with active participation of the stakeholders.’’

Krishna, in a letter written to the Union Finance Minister, copy of which was released to the press here, said NSGM had strived to showcase the benefits of this pilot project on ground and continues its focus on sustainable deployment models of Smart Grids which have supplemented the efforts in Smart Cities.

He said for the power sector to continue on the path of economic growth, deployment and adoption of latest technologies, introduction of more intelligence into the grid in the form of Smart Grid were inevitable.

‘’I request the Union Government to announce One India One Smart Grid under five year plan to be implemented in phases between 2019-2023 in the ensuing Union Budget. The finances could be shared 50:50 basis by the Centre and respective State governments,’’ he opined.

Krishna said Karnataka State had taken the lead and demonstrated the implementation of a smart grid in part, in Bengaluru, and he would request the Centre to include the entire State in the first phase of implementation of the plan.
