Former Congress MLA arrested in Simdega for beating JE of electricity department

Simdega, Dec 1 (UNI) Former Congress MLA Niyel Tirkey was today arrested on the charges of beating up a junior engineer of the electricity department and was later produced before the court which forwarded him to jail.
Police said that the JE Krishna Kumar had on September 13 visited his petrol pump located near the collectorate and had cut the power supply as the department has pending bills worth Rs 1.180 lakh. On that day the former MLA alongwith his son and other employees of the petrol pump had beaten the JE after which an FIR was lodged at the local police station.
On the other hand the former MLA has denied any involvement in the incident. Interestingly Mr Tirkey had purchased nomination papers for the upcoming Kolibera by-polls voting for which will take place on December 20.
