Food processing ministry's countrywide analysis finds Sikkim with least adulterated processed food

Gangtok,Jul19 (UNI) A countrywide food analysis carried out by ministry of food processing industries for the financial year 2017-18 across the country revealed that only 17 out of 182 food samples from Sikkim were found adulterated or misbranded. .
None of the processed food business operator in Sikkim was convicted nor fined.
The highest fine payer turned out to be from UP who had to pay Rs 15,89,81,003. A huge number of processed food business operators have been also convicted.
The State has been maintaining food safety standards as set in 2006 relevant Act.
The Additional Chief Secretary of Home Suresh Kumar Gupta has been encouraging the processed food business operators in the state to lead in maintaining Food Safety Standards.
Sikkim has a few Food processing industries. These are mostly centred around Tea, fruit preservation,spices, processed food and pickles under small scale industries, cheese and beverages.
