Srinagar, Dec 10 (UNI) Normal life remained disrupted for the fourth straight day on Tuesday due to dense fog coupled with icy cold winds in the Kashmir valley, where rain and snow is likely during the next 24 hours.
The government has ordered winter vacation in all educational institutions upto Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) from today (Tuesday) in Kashmir valley and winter zone of Jammu region till February 22.
Doctors and experts have advised people, having heart and chest ailment, besides elderly persons not to venture out of their homes in the morning and evening hours when temperature remained sub zero.
A Met department spokesman said situation will improve from today afternoon when a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) could result in fresh rain and snow from this evening.
Very dense fog was witnessed since early this morning in the valley, including summer capital of Union Territory (UT) Jammu and Kashmir badly affecting normal activities. Vehicles were plying with headlights on in a very low speed. However, less number of vehicles and pedestrians could be seen on the roads due to icy cold winds.
People prefer to remain indoor in the morning.
Though the Srinagar-Jammu national highway was through for one-way traffic only , reports received here said that vehicles with headlights on were moving in a very low speed due to dense fog on this side of the Jawhar tunnel. Traffic police have also advised driver to drive carefully in a very low speed with fog and headlines on.
Shops and business establishments, which were functioning since morning in Srinagar, remained closed on International Human Rights Day today.
