Fog, cold wreak havoc in North India

Shimla/Pune, Jan 21 (UNI) Cold conditions and dense fog wreaked havoc in north India on Tuesday.
Uphills received fresh snowfall and rains hit normal life in the Himalayan states.
Eight people, including four children, who were on a pilgrimage in Nepal died due to suffocation after the heater, which they used in their room to keep themselves warm, malfunctioned.
Tourists were identified as Prabin Kumar (39), Saranya (34), Ranjith Kumar T. B. (39), Indu Ranjith (34), Sree Bhadra (9), Abhinav Surya (9), Abhi Nair (7) and Vaishnav Ranjith (2).
The 15-member group from Kerala was staying at Everest Panorama Resort at Daman in Kathmandu.
At least 10 people were killed in two separate road accidents in Amethi and Shahjahanpur district due to dense fog late Monday night.
A report from Amethi said that five people were killed and one other critically injured when a SUV hit a truck on the Gauriganj-Amethi road near Barhamasi village at around 2300 hours.
Surendra Kashyap (45), Srichand (42), Kalpanath ( 43), Dheeraj (38) and Manoj (27) were killed on the spot.
Critically injured Baijnath, 40, was admitted to hospital.
In Shahjahanpur, five members of a family, enroute a wedding ceremony, were killed when their car fell into a roadside ditch near Sanda village under the Nigohi police station area at around 2200 hours on Monday.
Zakim, Yamin, Ashfaq, Gaurav and Lala, all in the age group of 20 to 25 years, were going to Pilibhit when their car skidded off the road and fell into a ditch.
They were residents of Shantipuram colony in Shahjahanpur.
A low of 4.6 deg C was registered at Churk in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Rain or thundershowers occurred at most places in Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and at a few tracts in Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Punjab, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital, Srinagar, again turned white due to fresh snowfall since early this morning, disrupting normal life. Roof and tree tops besides electric poles and wires, plain fields and roads had turned white as people woke up on Tuesday morning.
