Bengaluru, July 23 (UNI) After very heavy rains in the catchment area due to active Southwest monsoon during last one month causing severe floods in south and north Karnataka, the flood levels in Cauvery and Krishna delta came down since Sunday night giving respite to people along the banks of the two major rivers.
Official sources said heavy rains that lashed Kodagu, ChiKkamagaluru, Hassan districts under Cauvery belt relented for the past 24 hours easing the flood threat even as all the major reservoirs like Krishnaraja Sagar across Cauvery, Gorur dam across its tributary Hemavati and Kabini reservoir had touched their maximum level since last one week. At 0600 hrs today, over 80,000 cusecs of water continued to be discharged from Cauvery reservoirs to Tamil Nadu.
This had resulted in Stanley reservoir in Mettur, Tamil Nadu, also reach its brim and 40,000 cusecs of water being released from it for the first time in last four years, official sources said.
