Five of family commit suicide under financial stress in Gujarat

Jamnagar, Jan 1 (UNI) Five members of a family, including an 80-year-old woman and two children, have committed suicide by consuming poison in Kisan Chowk area of Jamnagar in Gujarat, the police said on Tuesday. The family was said to be under serious financial stress.
Police said that Dipak Pannalal Sakariya (40), his wife Artiben (37), daughter Kumkum (10), son Hemant (5) and mother Jayaben (80) were all found dead.
Prima facie it seems that they had committed suicide due to financial difficulties. The family, which used to sell Chaulafali (a kind of snack) had to spend much more than its earnings on the treatment of Jayaben and other expenses. Though no suicide note was found, police said that from the accounts of neighbours, relatives and a sole survivor, Pannalal, it seemed that the deceased had consumed poison.
