Five killed, 40 injured in Slovakia gas explosion

Bratislava, Dec 7 (UNI) At least five people were killed and 40 others injured in a gas explosion at a 12-story apartment in the eastern Slovak town of Presov.

As per firefighters, the explosion on Friday was followed by a fire that ripped through the top four or five floors of the high-rise building, The Slovak Spectator reported.
PM Peter Pellegrini said that the number of casualties and injured is likely to go up as the rescuers continue their work.
'Five casualties have been officially confirmed, but it is also clear, according to the eyewitnesses, that that number will increase further,' Pellegrini said.
It was not clear how many people had been inside, but firefighters said all people they could find were evacuated to nearby schools.

Health Minister Andrea Kalavska said none of the injured was in life-threatening condition.

Investigation is on.
