Five injured in BJP-IPFT clash, tension prevails

Ambassa(Tripura), Jun 16(UNI) Five people have been injured in a fresh case of violence between BJP and its ally IPFT in the bordering subdivision of Gandacharra in the northern Tripura district of Dhalai, here, this afternoon.
According to sources, today BJP arranged a victory rally at remote Raisyabari area. At around 2:30 pm the jubilant rally reached the IPFT run motor syndicate office, where BJP activists burst crackers, apparently to poke fun at IPFT workers over their party's defeat in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections.
Soon a clash erupted between BJP and IPFT workers. In the scuffle three BJP activists identified as Kishore Chakma(54), Pritimoy Chakma(39) and Shibsindhu Jamatia(45) and two IPFT workers identified as Tejendra Tripura(19) and Biswajit Tripura(33) were injured.
In order to disperse the mob, the police burst tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
Irked by the unabated post-poll violence between IPFT and BJP workers, the villagers blocked the Raisyabari-Gandacharra road with logs of woods to prevent the passage of such rallies in future.

A huge contingent of police reached the spot to control escalation of violence though tension gripped the area.
Meanwhile, Revenue Minister cum IPFT supremo Narendra Chandra Debbarma visited the subdivision this morning to resolve the conflict, but law and order situation continues to be grim in the area.
