Five held in connection with Parassinikadavu gang rape case

Kannur, Dec 5 (UNI) Thaliparamba police on Wednesday arrested five persons in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl at Parassinikadavu after luring her through social media account.

According to Thaliparamba Dy Superintendent of Police K V Venugopal, police have arrested K V Sandeep (31), E P Shamsudheen (37), K P Ayoop (32), V C Shabeer (36) and Pavithran (38) for committing the crime.

Police arrested the first four in connection with rape of the tenth standard student at a private lodge near the Parassinikadavu temple, while the lodge manager Pavithran was arrested for giving help to the accused.

Police said a total of 19 persons, including her father, sexually assaulted the minor girl at various places and police registered 15 separate cases at four separate police stations.

The gang rape came to light on December 4. Police said, few days back, the accused called the victim's brother and demanded money by threatening to publicise the visuals.

The family approached the Women Police Cell near Kannur town and they referred the case to Thaliparamba DySP which lead to the arrest of the accused.

Police recorded the statement of the victim before Thaliparamba Judicial First-Class Magistrate on Tuesday and a case has been registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Kidnapping and rape.

According to police, the girl claimed that she was befriended by a woman named Anjana on Facebook and the woman introduced the girl to Sandeep, claiming as the woman's brother. The woman invited the girl to meet her on November 13 but only Sandeep reached there in a car and taken her to a lodge at Parassinikadavu where he was sexually assaulted and took obscene videos.

On November 19, the man demanded the girl to come again at the same lodge by threatening to leak the videos. When the girl reached Parassinikadavu, he took the girl to the lodge and raped her along with the three others who were arrested,

The victim alleged that her father misbehaved with her on various occasions since she was 13 years- old.
