First one dayer between India A and New Zealand A Match washed out due to heavy rain

Visakhapatnam, Oct 6 (UNI) Incessant rain forced the first unofficial One-Day International between India A and New Zealand A to be abandoned without a ball being bowled in the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium here on Friday.
The one-dayer, the first in a five-match series, was scheduled to start in Morning, but due to rain even the toss couldn’t take place. The game was finally called off after 12pm, with the captains not even having made it out on the field for the toss.

The home side were coming into the series on the back of a 2-0 sweep in the unofficial Test series, with innings wins in both matches engineered chiefly by the spin duo of Karn Sharma and Shahbaz Nadeem, who took 30 wickets between them. India A had also been well served by the batsmen, with Shreyas Iyer hitting a century in the first match and Ankit Bawne doing it in the second game.

The selectors had picked two different squads for the one-day games, with the first one picked for the first three matches and the second for the last two matches. This was done to ensure participation in the Ranji Trophy, which got underwayon Friday, was not disproportionately affected.

One of the Forced changes India A had to make to the side was due to Shubman Gill, the talented U-19 batsman, picking up a side strain to be ruled out of the entire series. Gill had been selected in both squads, but with him ruled out, Bawne had been drafted in. Bawne, who was initially picked for the last two games, had also been named the Maharashtra captain for the Ranji Trophy. In his absence, Rahul Tripathi has been named to lead the side in their opening match, against Hyderabad.
New Zealand also had to make a forced change to their squad, with Colin De Grandhomme coming in for an injured sean solia , De Grandhomme is already part of the New Zealand ODI side that will face India in a series starting later this month, came in after Solia injured his left hamstring during training.

The second unofficial ODI of the five-match series will be played on October 8 .
