First leg of budget session concludes, Lok Sabha adjourned till March 2

New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) The first part of the Budget session of the Lok Sabha which commenced with the customary address of President Ram Nath Kovind to the Joint Sitting of both the Houses on January 31, concluded on Tuesday.

A debate took place on Motion of Thanks to the President's address and reply was given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The second part of the session will begin from March 2 and continue till April 3.

The Economic Survey was tabled on January 31 and the Union Budget was presented on February 1 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The Budget session got underway on the backdrop of violent protests against the CAA in various parts of the country and also repeated incidents of violence in university campuses.

The House of the People was adjourned after passing Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019 which seeks to include certain tribal communities in Karnataka into Scheduled Tribe category.

Earlier in the day, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman replied to debate on Union Budget.



She assured that the government was taking all necessary steps for building a strong economy to increase private and government investment, consumption and exports, while giving enough importance to all sectors and results have already started showing.
