Dubai, Nov 13 (UNI) The construction of the first hydroelectric power station in the United Arab Emirates and the region with a capacity of 250 megawatts is 94% complete, and it will be launched in the first quarter of 2025, the Dubai Media Office said.
"Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that its pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant that it is implementing in Hatta is 94.15% complete, with generator installations currently under way in preparation for a trial operation in the first quarter of 2025," the office said in a statement on Tuesday.
The kinetic energy of water flowing down a 1.2-kilometer subterranean tunnel will rotate the turbines, "converting mechanical energy into electrical energy, which can be delivered to DEWA’s grid within 90 seconds," the statement added.
