FIFA launches Hindi Twitter account for FIFA U17 World Cup

Kolkata, Oct 5 (UNI) FIFA becomes first global sports federation to launch a Hindi language Twitter account (@FIFAHindi) Twitter is what’s happening in the world of football and the FIFA U17 World Cup India 2017 is set to make history. For the first ever FIFA competition in India, FIFA has launched a new Twitter account @FIFAHindi - the first global sports federation to do so - to cater for football fans in the most widely spoken language in the host country: Hindi. The first FIFA competition in India. The first participation of an Indian national team at a FIFA competition. The first time the Indian national anthem will be sung. Now, FIFA and Twitter are embarking on another ‘first’. The Twitter account will keep fans updated on the progress of the 52-match tournament, taking them on a journey across all six venues, as 24 teams compete for one trophy. “We will also inform fans about important information related to their fan journey, and will retweet the very best fan tweets, as #FootballTakesOver in India,” a FIFA official today said. FIFA Chief Communications Officer Fabrice Jouhaud said “At FIFA, we are committed to further deepening our engagement with fans around the world, and enabling them to share their love of football. We know Indian fans are not only excited about the FIFA U-17 World Cup, but are huge supporters of the FIFA World CupTM as well. We will therefore be closely analysing the success of this account over the next four weeks.” “Football has a special place on Twitter with a strong community and constantly growing conversations,” said Aneesh Madani, Head of Sports Partnerships, Asia Pacific, Twitter. “With the launch of this new Hindi Twitter account, FIFA is transcending the barriers of language and enabling even more access, as the first-ever FIFA event in the country kicks off,” he said.
