Festival of colours celebrated with religious ardour, Prez, Vice Prez, PM greet people on occasion

New Delhi, Mar 21 (UNI) Holi, the festival of colours is being celebrated with religious fervor and enthusiasm across the length and breadth of the country on Thursday.
On the occasion of the Holi festival , which signifies the onset of spring and marks the end of winter , people with smeared faces and caught in a festive mood, thronged various places since morning, applying colours at each other and passersby.
They exchanged sweets to celebrate the festival , that marks the beginning of spring.The enthusiasm was more among the youth and students who danced to the tune of drums and exchanged sweets.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narinder Modi have expressed their greetings to the people on the occasion.
In a message, Mr Kovind said “Greetings and best wishes to fellow citizens in India and abroad on the auspicious occasion of Holi. The festival of colours, Holi is a celebration of spring and fraternity in our society. May it bring peace, joy and prosperity to everyone’s lives”.
Greeting people Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said,' Holi is a celebration of the victory of good over evil. It is a festival that expresses joy, camaraderie and conviviality.'
IMrn a tweet, mr Modi said the festival would further strength the unity and goodwill in the country.
Reports of enthusiastic celebrtations were received from different parts of the country.
There was no report of any ugly incident received from anywhere as authorities claimed to have taken adequate measures particularly at educational institutions to maintain law and order.
The Delhi University had issued an advisory, stating that anti-ragging and anti-eve-teasing provisions would be applied in case students were harassed during the festival.
The Metro services in the National Capital remained suspended until late afternoon on the occasion and would resume from 2:30 pm.
Delhi Police had stepped up its patrolling to ensure that no untoward incident took place on the day of the festival, especially with women.
