Chennai, Jul 31 (UN) Shooting of over 20 films were expected to be affected from tomorrow as the members of Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI), comprising 23 unions of various crafts of the film and TV industry, would go an indefinite strike to press their demands. They were demanding that the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) implement revised wages for its members. FEFSI head R K Selvamani announced that their members would go on strike if their demands were not met. He said the TFPC should engage technicians affiliated to FEFSI, who were more than 25,000 in number, and should not use non-FEFSI technicians. The wage agreement expired today and FEFSI members should be paid new wages from tomorrow. 'If they fail to do so, we would go on a strike from tomorrow', Selvamni said. He said TFPC's decision to not pay the already agreed wages was totally unfair. Meanwhile, TFPC President and actor Vishal announced that producers could work with whomsoever they wish if they were unhappy with FEFSI. 'We stand by what we said earlier. We are ready to work with those willing to work with us from FEFSI', he added. He also said any producer could engage a person from outside FEFSI at his own will. Citing the Madras High Court order, which had restrained FEFSI from disrupting the shooting of any film and that a producer could appoint any technician he wants for his film, Vishal warned of legal action against those disrupting the film shootings. A similar showdown between FEFSI and Producers Council in 1997 saw production and release of Tamil films affected. Thanks to the State government's intervention, FEFSI called off the strike after a week. UNI GV CS 1704
