FDA’s report vindicates that govt had compromised formalin in fish case under pressure from fish agents: AAP

Panaji, Sep 11 (UNI) Aam Adami Party (AAP) on Tuesday claimed that Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) report had exposed the government and vindicated that the government had compromised the formalin in fish case under pressure from fish agents.
Addressing a press conference in the city, AAP leader Valmiki Naik said state Convenor Elvis Gomes had on September 5 made an explosive claim that there existed a report that the FDA was suppressing, as it contained damning facts that exposed the role of the FDA Director herself in 'misleading the public on the issue'.
''This report, by Designated Officer Iva Fernandes, attached herewith, has now been made public and contains shocking facts and events that clearly establish the intervention of FDA Director in influencing the investigation and compromising on public health thus committing a crime against the people of Goa. Why did the FDA Director Jyoti Sardessai call the Designated Officer from the phone of M Ibrahim, president of wholesale fish association? Why did the FDA Director restrain the Designated Officer from carrying out her duties and responsibilities under the FSSI Act? Why did the FDA Director bypass the Designated Officer when announcing the lab test results which gave a clean chit to the fish samples, claiming that the formalin found was “within permissible limits?'' Mr Naik said and alleged that even after two whole months since the issue first came to light, the government had not taken any action or registered any case under criminal sections to investigate the offence which was a continuing crime that endangers public health.
