FCI to increase storage facilities in Assam

Guwahati, Oct 4 (UNI) Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan today said initiatives were being taken for improvement of grain storage facilities in Assam and the target of reaching storage of 5.2 lakh tonne of the FCI will be achieved soon.
Addressing a press conference here at the end of his two-day tour of North East, Mr Paswan said, ''The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has storage facility for 3.5 lakh tonne in the state present. The target of increasing it to 5.2 lakh tonne will be achieved soon as new facilities are being added.''
Another priority area for FCI in the state in increased paddy procurement from farmers of the state, the Minister said, adding against a target of 55,000 metric tonne procurement this year, 53,087 metric tonne had been procured from the farmers of the state by the FCI.
