New Delhi, Nov 28 (UNI) The agitating farmers at the Haryana-Delhi Singhu border have refused to move from the place, while more of them were on their way to reach the national capital, from the states of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
While the government has given permission to the ryots to protest at the Nirankari Grounds in Burari, but many farmers have not agreed to the same, stating that they would either head towards Jantar Mantar or the Ramlila Maidan, to stage a demonstration.
According to the Traffic Police, the highway has been closed from both the sides, while the motorists have been advised to avoid the stretch and take an alternative route. Traffic has also been diverted from Mukarba Chowk and the GTK road, they said.
Police have advised the motorists to avoid going towards Rohini and opposite direction via Signature Bridge, GTK Road, National Highway 44 and the Singhu border, due to the blockage.
In view of the peasants remaining adamant to sit on the Singhu border, both the Haryana and Delhi Police have tightened the security arrangements at the borders, along with heavy barricading.
As per the local sources, farmers from UP were also headed to Delhi via the Delhi Ghaziabad border.
Attacking the government's seriousness over the proposal of holding talks, the farmer organisation leaders said the government was giving statements in its own favour, trying to make the farmers understand the benefits of new laws.
However, it never mentioned anything regarding its agreement over rolling back of the new laws, the farmer leaders added and further said that the government was giving them hollow assurances and statements, which will no more be accepted.
They further said that the government has overlooked the opposition from the farmers and also tried to defame them.
According to sources, a large number of farmers coming from Punjab, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan are being said to join the agitation. Police in all the districts have been kept on alert.
