Farmer’s suicide leads cops to extortionists gang; 4 held

Faridkot, Oct 7 ( UNI) About a month after a farmer ended his life by jumping before a train, police on Saturday revealed that the victim was being blackmailed by a gang of extortionists.
On September 11, Charanpal singh (52) of Bhalur village had left his home for Kotkapura. On September 14, his body was found on a railway track near Talwandi Bhai in Ferozpur district. At first, the police had shut the case terming it a routine suicide by a farmer. But the victim’s wife Manjit Kaur approached the police and demanded a probe.
The police then traced the call record of the deceased that led to the exposure of an extortion racket. They have identified three women and four men and registered a case under section 306,506,388,201 and 120 b of the IPC (abetment of suicide extortion and causing disappearance of evidence) against them. Four of them have been arrested.
According to police, Parminder Kaur, Sukhdeep Kaur of Muktsar and Pooja of Kotkapura lured Charanpal to Wara Daraka village and made a video of him in an objectionable position. The women and their associates – Rajdeep singh , Lakhbir singh, Gurpreet Singh and Sukhdev Singh demanded Rs 10 lakh from the farmer.

To build pressure on Charanpal, a gang member spread rumour at Bhallur village about his being caught with a woman, while another member reached his house to negotiate the extortion money. Unable to pay the extortion money, Charanpal ended his life.
