Farmer’s suicide leads cops to extortionists gang; 4 held

Faridkot, Oct 7 ( UNI) About a month after a farmer ended his life by jumping before a train, police on Saturday revealed that the victim was being blackmailed by a gang of extortionists.
On September 11, Charanpal singh (52) of Bhalur village had left his home for Kotkapura. On September 14, his body was found on a railway track near Talwandi Bhai in Ferozpur district. At first, the police had shut the case terming it a routine suicide by a farmer. But the victim’s wife Manjit Kaur approached the police and demanded a probe.
The police then traced the call record of the deceased that led to the exposure of an extortion racket. They have identified three women and four men and registered a case under section 306,506,388,201 and 120 b of the IPC (abetment of suicide extortion and causing disappearance of evidence) against them. Four of them have been arrested.
