Exposure to highly hazardous pesticides a major public health concern

Kolkata, Jan 6 (UNI) Highly hazardous pesticides may have acute or chronic toxic effects and pose particular risk to children.
Their widespread use has caused health problems and fatalities in many parts of the world, often as a result of occupational exposure and accidental or intentional poisonings.
Environmental contamination can also result in human exposure through consumption of residues of pesticides in food and, possibly, drinking-water. Although developed countries have sophisticated systems already in place to register pesticides and control their trade and use, this is not always the case elsewhere.

Itanagar, Mar 29 (UNI) In a repeat of previous poll outcomes, the hilly Northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh is ‘set’ to witness seven candidates from ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including Chief Minister Pema Khandu, getting elected 'unopposed' to the 11th Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh, 'without a contest'.
After ‘complete’ scrutiny of nominations filed for all 60 Assembly Constituencies, including the ‘adjourned’ scrutiny of papers done for Itanagar and Daporijo seats today, altogether seven validly nominated BJP candidates were found to be opponent free, and they are likely to be declared elected unopposed on Saturday after the last date of withdrawal of candidature, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Liken Koyu said.
