Panaji, Jul 7 (UNI) Former Goa BJP President and Health Minister Dr Suresh Amonkar, who had tested positive for Covid-19 last week, passed away on Monday.
He was 68 and admitted to dedicated COVID-19 hospital two weeks back. He became eighth person to die in the state after testing positive for Covid-19.
Various leaders including Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Union Minister Shripad Naik and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat codoled demise of the senior leader.
In a tweet, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said," Deeply saddend by the passing away of Dr. Suresh Amonkar, former President of BJP Goa Pradesh and Former Cabinet Minister of Goa Govt. His contribution to the state of Goa is immense and will never be forgotten. I express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family."
Union Minister of State for AYUSH (I/C) and Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik said," Deeply saddened by the sad demise of former President of BJP Goa Pradesh & former Health Minister, Govt. of Goa Dr. Suresh Amonkar.
He will be always remembered for his services to the BJP Party at very initial stage & as a sincere minister of Goa State.
My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and well wishers."
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat said," I am shocked with the unfortunate demise of my close friend, former Health Minister Dr. Suresh Amonkar. I shared a close bonding with him. He lived with Sincerity & Honesty in his personal, professional, political & social career."
"He was my Cabinet Colleague in former Chief Minister Francisco Sardinha's government. He always lived with simplicity and served the people of his Constituency & State of Goa without any expectations and a single moto to giving his best service to the people. His contribution for betterment of Goa will keep him alive in everyones heart. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace," he said.
