Ethiopian army 'takes control of regional capital of Mekelle'

Addis Ababa, Nov 28(UNI) Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said on Saturday that the country's government forces have taken complete control of the regional capital of the northern Tigray region, claiming the completion of the military operations last phase".
Mr Abiy said that the Ethiopian army entered Mekelle after it stepped up its offensive against the Tigray People's Liberation Front(TPLF), a BBC report said.
He went on to add that the army had also managed to release thousands of soldiers taken prisoner by the TPLF and had taken control of the airport and regional offices, insisting that the operation had been carried out with "due care for citizens".
