Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale passes away

New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) Veteran film and theatre actor Vikram Gokhale passed away at a hospital in Pune on Saturday.

He was 77 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Gokhale, who was undergoing treatment, reportedly suffered multiple-organ failure.

Born in Pune, on November 14, 1945, he was the son of Marathi film and stage artist Chandrakant Gokhale.

Meanwhile, former union minister Prakash Javadekar condoled the demise of the actor and wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter, “Saddened by the demise of veteran actor #VikramGokhale.

He was a Versatile Actor as well a committed social activist. He left an indelible mark in Marathi, Hindi Theatre & Film industry with his extraordinary performances. My heartfelt condolences to his family.Om Shanti!”



Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted, “The death of veteran actor Vikram Gokhale, who graced both the Marathi and Hindi cinemas, has caused an irreparable loss to the cinema world and the theatre industry.

Akshay Kumar said, “Very sad to know of the demise of Vikram Gokhale ji. Worked with him in films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Mission Mangal, had so much to learn from him. Om Shanti”.

Gokhale made his Bollywood debut in 1971 with ‘Parwana’. He then starred in movies like ‘Vikram Vetal’, ‘Insaaf’, ‘Agneepath’, ‘Balwaan’, ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, among others.

Recently, he was seen in movies like ‘Aiyaary’, ‘Hichki’, ‘Mission Mangal’ and last in ‘Nikamma’.

He had also made the directorial debut in 2010, with the Marathi film ‘Aaghaat’.
