New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) The Sanjay Leela Bhansali productions on Wednesday finally confirmed that Alia Bhatt will play the titular role in their new movie 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Bhansali Productions said,'A name you've heard, a story you haven't.Directed by #SanjayLeelaBhansali starring @aliaa08 in and as #GangubaiKathiawadi Bhansali Productions and @PenMovies bring you this powerful story on 11th Sept, 2020! All India distribution by #PenMarudhar'.

Alia tweeted,'A name you’ve heard a story you haven’t. #GangubaiKathiawadi This ones going to be special!! Directed by #SanjayLeelaBhansali, releasing 11 September 2020.'

The film is a biopic based on the life of Gangubai, also known as the Madam of Kamathipura, one of the most remembered women from the history of Mumbai. Forced into prostitution into an early age, Gangubai became an influential pimp in the city, with notorious criminals serving as her clients.

The flick will be releasing on September 11, 2020.
