England bowl out Australia for 223 in 49 overs

Birmingham, Jul 11 (UNI) England bowlers Chris Woakes 3/20, Archer 2/32 and Rashid Khan 3/54 bowled out Australia for 223 in 49 overs during the second semi-final clash here in the ICC World Cup at Edgbaston on Thursday.
Steven Smith 85 off 119 (6 fours), Alex Carey 46 off 70 (4 fours) took Australia to a challenging 223 all out in 49 overs.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and elected to bat with openers David Warner and skipper Aaron Finch starting on a shaky note with just 4 runs for first wicket.
For England Archer provided a early breakthrough lbw Finch for a duck in the very second over. Australia's first wicket fell at 4.
With Finch's exit Warner and Smith looked to settle, but soon in 3rd over Kangaroos received another blow with Warner going out after Bairstow caught him in Woakes spell as duo added just 6 runs for second wicket stand. Australia lost its second wicket at 10. Warner 9 off 11 (2 fours).
After Warner, Smith and Handscomb contributed 4 runs for third wicket before Woakes removed him taking his second wicket in 7th over, Australia were now 3 down at 14. Handscomb scored 4 off 12.
Australia desperately needed a big partnership to carry fowward the score after losing quick three wickets at 14.
Then hope came in form of Smith and wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey when duo stitched 103 runs for fourth wicket it seemed they would carry forward the score to a big total against England with Carey and Smith playing sensibly, but the partnership was broken which England were looking for as Carey who fell 4 runs short of his half century 46 off 70 (4 fours) throwed his wicket to Rashid in 28th over.
Australia lost its fourth wicket at 117 and then 5th wicket after scoring just one run at 118 when Stoinis was lbw by Rashid for duck in same over Rashid scalping his second wicket.
Another 39 run stand came between Smith and Maxwell for sixth wicket, but then dangerman Maxwell was sent off by Archer picking his second wicket caught by Morgan in 35th over. Maxwell chipped in 22 off 23 (2 fours, 1 six).
Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but Smith stood and fought hard against England bowlers at the other end and added another 51 run with Starc for 8th wicket.
Australia lost two quick wickets in 48th over of 1st and 2nd ball first of Smith run out and then Starc by Woakes who picked his third wicket. Smith 85 off 119 balls (6 fours). Starc 29 off 36 balls (1 four, 1 six).
Australia's last wicket fell in form of Behrendorff at 1 in 49th over last ball picked by Wood as Kangaroos were all out for 223 in 49 overs.
Chris Woakes 3/20, Archer 2/32, Rashid Khan 3/54 and Wood 1/45 were the wicket-takers for England.
