Encounter ensues b/w militants, security forces in south Kashmir

Srinagar, May 23 (UNI) An encounter ensued between militants and security forces in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Thursday evening.

Official sources said following specific information about presence of militants, a joint search operation was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police, Army and CRPF at Dadsar, Tral in Pulwama on Thursday.

However, when security forces were moving toward a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons.

“The security forces retaliated, ensuing in an encounter,” they said, adding additional security forces have been rushed to further seal the area to foil any attempts by militants to escape.

They said the encounter was still going on when the reports last came in.
