Enacting humour on big screen is as taxing as on TV: Kiku Sharda

Enacting humour on big screen is as taxing as on TV: Kiku Sharda

By Sanya Pandey

New Delhi, Sept 17 (UNI) Known for his popular acts as Palak, Bachcha Yadav and Lachcha on 'The Kapil Sharma Show' (TKSS), comic actor Kiku Sharda says performing comedy on the big screen is as challenging as on the Television. Talking to UNI, Kiku who was in the town to promote his upcoming movie '2016 The End' said," To perform comedy on big screen is as challenging as on TV. This is because the audience for both mediums is the same. The challenge is identical but the canvas of a film is much bigger and huger and has more money involved, so that pressure of film running is more than a TV show maybe. But working on shows like TKSS is big, canvas is large and the stars that come on our show are also grand.' Talking about his upcoming movie, the 'FIR' show fame said," The film its a light-hearted comedy but its a thriller also at the same time. So its a thrill comedy or comthrill." Its a situational comedy, easy going film and so I don't know in which category it should be put. There is a comedy in a thrilling ride and I think its a new genre as whole.' Talking about his character in the movie, the actor said he is playing the character of Swami Aseemanand. "People call him 'swami' because he is a son of a swami. His life is going on a routine and he wants to explore things. And since he is a son of a famous swami he can't do many things due to restrictions. He has to live in an ashram and eat vegetarian food. He wants to eat non-vegetarian food, but cannot do so. So, he has little aspirations in his life and wants to do something new but is not getting a chance. But when he (Aseemanand) comes to know that the world will end in seven days, he does what his heart wants,'Kiku said. 'The message of our film is that people should do what their heart desires and should achieve their aspirations and not wait for the opportune time to do so,"he said. On asking how does he manages to avoid charges of vulgarity while acting in The Kapil Sharma Show', Kiku said,"we do not crack below the belt jokes in 'The Kapil Sharma Show'. We don't go nasty, we don't go vulgar. So, it's a deliberate attempt that we want to make a show that people of every age group can watch it. There is no certification in the TV shows like we have for films, so we try not to go vulgar in our jokes. And I don't promote this kind of humour.' Responding to the plagiarism charge that against him recently, Kiku said," I got to know about this word then only. I didn't knew about this word's existence. I think its not very shocking that if two people are having the same jokes on their minds. And I guess people can say what they want and from our side we create original content and jokes. We read many jokes on WhatsApp, but the fun is how the jokes are presented on stage. Sometimes jokes are not new but their presentation is unique and different that attracts audience and make them laugh.' Asked if Kiku can take jokes being cracked on him, the 42 year old actor said," Bigtime! We are very comfortable in the TKSS. If someone cracks a joke on me, I respond to him in the same way. So we take jokes on ourself easily. And thats how the humour should be. I want to tell the world that be a little easy and no one should be uptight about how you wouldn't want a joke on yourself. Maybe people should be smart and witty enough that if someone says something, then one should revert back. Everybody should keep that sharpness and learn to take jokes on oneself. Its shouldn't be difficult.' Speaking about his upcoming show with the legendary comedian Johnny Lever, Kiku said," the show is called 'Partners'. It's about the cops and Johnny Lever is playing the commisioner in the show. We solve cases and goof up but at the end solve them. Its a sit com which will come on SAB TV and will start from November 7. So after FIR, and Akbar Birbal this is my next show.' Clearing the air of being a part of Sunil Grover's upcoming show, Kiku said,"there is no such talk. As of now TKSS is going to come back soon and I am very much a part of the Kapil team and TKSS." Directed by Jaideep Chopra, 2016 The End' also stars Priya Banerjee, Divyendu Sharma, Rahul Roy, Narendra Jha, Tom Alter, Supriya Karnik and Mir Sarwar playing pivotal roles in it.
