Elimination of caste discrimination only to bring development, says Union Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 22 (UNI) The overall development of the country is possible only after the complete elimination of caste discrimination, Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New and Renewable Energy, RK Singh, said here on Saturday.

Inaugurating programmes to commemorate the 92nd 'Maha Samadhi Day' of social reformer and spiritual leader, Sree Narayana guru, at Sivagiri Mutt, the Union Minister said Narayana Guru was man who pointed out the evils in the society and was bent upon rectifying them through his teachings and preaching.

Guru was instrumental in uplifting backward classes and allowing temple entry to all communities and ensuring education to all.

In a message, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said "My pranaams to Sree Narayana Guru, on his 92nd Samadhi day. His proclamation 'One Caste,One Religion,One God for Mankind' lives on as a guiding principle for the world. Like waves that energize sands with every caress, his messages instil a new hope to mankind, day by day."
