Elephant swept away in Chhattisgarh's Kelo river

Pathalgaon, Chhattisgarh, Oct 7 (UNI) An elephant was swept away by strong currents in the Kelo River in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh District, forest officials said.

A herd of 12 pachyderms was crossing the river – which is in spate due to heavy rainfall since the past two days – when the mishap occurred yesterday.

Deputy Divisional Forest Officer RK Sisodiya said the tusker was stuck between a rock and bushes in the river. A forest department team reached the spot to pull out the carcass.
