Election Commission should call all party meeting before taking decision on election in Bihar : Congress

Patna, Jul 11 (UNI) Congress today demanded from Election Commission to convene
all party meeting for seeking their views before taking final decision on holding Bihar
Assembly Elections as Corona pandemic scenario was deteriorating with each passing
Congress MLC Prem Chandra Mishra said here that that Election commission should
call a meeting of all political parties in Bihar to seek their views before taking a final call
on holding state Assembly Elections slated for October November this year.
It was true that Corona pandemic scenario was going from bad to worse with each
passing day and if such condition continued in days ahead, it would be very difficult in
holding election in the state as per schedule in October November this year, he added.
Mr Mishra said that lives of millions of people could not be put at risk due to election
as Corona pandemic was still beyond the control of the government.
It was not only that lives of common people would be at risk but Election Commission
would have to take care for safety and protection of polling personnel and security
forces to be deployed for free and fair polling, he added.
Congress MLC said that his party had started making initial preparation for Assembly
The party had launched digital membership drive and also made arrangements for
online contact programmes with workers, he added.
Mr Mishra said that his party was of the view that elections could not be held if present
condition continued to persist in days ahead.
If any attempt to conduct election was made in this scenario, it would be a criminal
lapses, he cautioned and added that Election Commission was the final authority to
take call on the issue.
