Elaborate arrangements in place for Sabarimala pilgrims

Kottayam, Nov 17 (UNI) Thousands of pilgrims on Sunday, the first day of Malayalam month Vrischikom, offered prayers at the Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala, the second day of the annual two-month Mandalam-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season.

Chief priest A K Sudheer Namboothiri opened the sanctum sanctorum of the temple at 0300 hrs (local time) and performed special poojas including 'Neyyabhishekam' and 'Mahaganapathi homam' (offerings to Lord Ganesha) among other pujas.

Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran, Travancore Devaswom Board president N Vasu, TDB members N Vijayakumar and K S Ravi and Devaswom Commissioner M Harshan among others were present when the temple was opened.

The temple will open till December 27 for Mandalapuja after that it will be closed for three days.

The shrine will reopen on December 30 for the Makaravilakku festival after that it will close on January 20, 2020.

The Devaswom Board, which manages the temple, has made elaborate arrangements for devotees including smooth darshan.
