Education Minister calls for identification of drop out girl child

Imphal, Jan 24 (UNI): Education, Labour & Employment Minister Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam urged the people to identify school dropout girl child in the locality and report to the officials concerned, so that necessary measures could be taken up to make them enrol in the school. He also appealed to find out the reasons for their inability to attend school, so that possible help could be provided to these girls.
The Minister was speaking at the Felicitation Ceremony of Women Achievers of Thoubal District organised by the District Task Force, Thoubal - Beti Bachao Beti Padhao at Counting Hall, DC Office Complex, Thoubal. He said that education is the key to women empowerment and it is therefore important that every girl child is made to receive education. He added that education is the main factor in development. And it is through education that the women can have better access and opportunities.
Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam said that there has been partiality in the society against the girl child, treating the boys better. The situation has however changed. He said that in 2015 Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was launched by the Prime Minister of India as a policy with an aim to save and improve the life of the girl child. Taking the example of Magnificent Mary Kom, he said that today many administrative and important positions in the public as well private sectors are held by women.
He also lauded the task force for organising the programme in such a unique way of felicitating the women of the villages and the district who had thrived and rose against all odds becoming a prominent individual in their fields. The achievers, he added, will be the role model and inspiration for many young girls to follow their footsteps.
