New Delhi, Jan 18 (UNI) Taking cognisance of the recent arrest of a writer and two editors of a Manipur-based website as a brazen violation of Constitutional rights, the Editors Guild of India (EGI) on Monday demanded immediate release of the journalists and withdrawal of cases against them, which posed a threat to the Freedom of Expression, and to Democracy itself.
A statement issued by EGI President Seema Mustafa said, 'EGI considers the recent arrest of a writer and two editors of Manipur website The Frontier Manipur under the Indian Penal Code applicable to sedition and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) as a brazen violation of every constitutional safeguard given for freedom of expression.
