Bhopal, Sept 26 (UNI) Ahead of coming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, the Election Commission of India (ECI) today released the final publication of the Second Special Summary Revision-2018 of the photo electoral rolls in all 230 assembly constituencies of Madhya Pradesh.
“According to the final publication, the total number of electorate in Madhya Pradesh is 5,03,94,086 – including 2,63,14,957 women and 1,410 of third gender. Of them, the number of service voters is 59,826,” Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer VL Kantha Rao told media here.
He said that the gender ratio showed improvement – increasing from 905 to 917 women per thousand of men. Balaghat's Baihar had the highest gender ratio of 1,019 women per thousand of men. On the other hand, Bhind's Mehgaon showed the lowest gender ratio of 799 women per thousand of men.
“The number of voters in the age group of 18-19 years is 15,78,167. Of them, nearly five lakh voters were included in the list after door-to-door campaigning by the ECI. The number of 'divyang' voters is 4.5 lakh,” said Mr Rao.
Responding to a query, he said that the electoral roll has been in constant process of being updated since October last year. Voters' lists published in January and July had 5.07 cr and 4.94 cr names. The latest list contains 5.03 cr names.
Mr Rao pointed out that the ECI had executed 96 lakh changes in the voters' list in the past year. Of them, 36.13 lakh pertained to addition of names and 35.71 lakh to removal of names while the rest involved the transfer of names in the same assembly segment.
In response to another query, he said that all the complaints made by the principal-opposition Congress with regards to duplicate voters had been investigated. Necessary changes were carried out.
Though Mr Rao did not provide specific number of changes carried out on complaints by the Congress, he said that the Congress had complained about the presence of around 11,000 duplicate voters in a constituency in Bhopal. However, only 827 duplicate voters were found and their names removed.
