Gangtok,Oct 21 (UNI) Altogether 31,058 electors excercised their franchise in the by-election to South Pok Lok Kamrang, Martam Rumtek and Gangtok assembly constituencies in Sikkim today.
According to Chief Election Offier, the poll percentage in South Pok Lok Kamrang was 80.56 % , while it was 72.60 % in Martam Rumtek and 51.97% in Gangtok.
Though the banks, shops and offices remained closed in the capital, the voter turn out was low.
The polling for three constituencies started at 7 am, before which amock poll was conducted at 5.30 am.
No incident of violence was reported in Gangtok and Martam Rumtek.
In order to maintain law and order, 102 police personnel were deployed and six Sikkim Armed Police were sent to critical polling stations of Martam Rumtek.
Only three candidates--Chief Minister PS Golay(SKM), Moses Rai(SDF) and Yadhu Rai (SRP)--were in the fray in Pok Lok Kamrang in South Sikkim
A total of 57 polling stations for three constituencies had been set up-- 22 in Pok lok Kamrang, 22 in Martam Rumtek and 12 in Gangtok.
However, six polling stations were identified as critical in Poklok Kamrang and six in Martam Rumtek, said Roshani Rai,Additional Electoral Officer.
Altogether 15 candidates contested the three seats for Sikkim Assembly with 32 seats.
Martam Rumtek, reserved for Bhutia-Lepchas, in East Sikkim had six candidates in field ---Nuk Tshering Bhutia (SDF), Sonam T Vechungpa(BJP), Mingma Tshering (Sikkim Republican Party),Nima Lepcha(Hamro Sikkim Party), Mechung Bhutia (Independent) and Passang Sherpa(Independent)
Gangtok,also a Bhutia-Lepcha reserved seat, had six candidates in fray, including Rinzing Ongmu (SDF), Yong Tshering Lepcha (BJP), Song Tshering (Sikkim Republican Party), Karma Yenten (Independent), Dilley Namgyal Kazi (Sikkim National People’s Party) and Bhaichung Bhutia(Hamro Sikkim Party).
There were five women controlled polling stations and two model polling booths in Gangtok and Pok Lok Kamrang respectively.
Electronic Voting Machines functioned well and no replacement was recorded.
The counting for East and South will be held on October 24 at District Collectorate, here.

Patna, Jun 6 (UNI) With detection of 147 fresh cases , the tally of coronavirus positive cases increased to 4,745 in Bihar so far.State Health Department sources said here today that the test report revealed 17 cases in Supaul followed by Madhubani with 16, Purnea 15, West Champaran 12,East Champaran 8, Saran and Samastipur 10 each, Bhagalpur 9, Kishanganj 8, Siwan 6, Vaishali and Darbhanga 5 each, Kaimur, Bhojpur and Araria 4 each, Sheohar and Buxar 3 each, Patna and Arwal 2 each and Gaya, Siwan and Jehanabad 1 each. These cases include 14 women.Their infection trailers being ascertained.
