East Tripura showed bewildered mandate: BJP's hold needed to strengthen

Ambassa (Tripura), May 24 (UNI) With surging saffron tsunami BJP marked its victory for the first time in the East Tripura parliamentary constituency though the voters found bewildered and divided among contending candidates as per the final result.
According to the final result, BJP candidate Rebati Tripura secured 4,81,126 votes and his nearest rival Congress candidate Pragya Devvarman received 2,77,836 votes making the difference of 2,04,290 votes in favour of BJP.
But the most interesting fact was that, the diminishing CPIM, which never found in fight, secured 2,00,963 votes. And amidst sharp criticism and opposition by BJP, the candidate from BJP's ally IPFT Narendra Chandra Debbarma got 45,304 votes in comparison with last term's 10,000 votes.
Six other candidates in fray got 27,974 votes in total. In NOTA option 11,214 voters casted their franchise. It clearly indicated the rush of anti-BJP votes within merely 15 months of the party's gaining power in the state.
Moreover, the bewildered voters failed to go with any specific ideology or agenda got scattered in diverse spectrum.
As a result, BJP's victory left behind some serious issues as the main two rivals Congress and CPIM still became successful to consolidate a healthy vote bank. And significantly, Congress with not a single MLA in state legislative grabbed the second position.
Now, if the BJP leadership would probe into it would be the matter to be seen.
